Dr. Tara Koza Camargo

Dr. Tara Koza Camargo is a Tampa Bay area native with a passion for everything St Pete! She attended the International Baccalaureate program at St Petersburg High School and then went on to complete her bachelors degree in Biology at the University of Florida. She completed her doctor of optometry degree at Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry and has since returned home to serve the patients of Pinellas County. From the first day of working for Dr. Marantz, Dr. Camargo fell in love with the practice and quickly recognized the high quality of care given to patients and in return the loyalty and high patient retention that is unique to this office. She hopes to continue this long tradition of quality eye care that Dr. Marantz, and before him Dr. Benjamin, have offered the community. Dr. Camargo believes in quality over quantity and takes the time necessary to provide a thorough eye exam. It is important to her that patients leave feeling like they were well cared for and have a great experience when they come in. Dr. Camargo keeps up with all the latest advances in eye care to provide the most up to date in standard of care. She is proficient in fitting contact lenses including multi-focal and mono-vision lenses, toric lenses to correct astigmatism as well as RGP and specialty contact lenses for unique corneal conditions.

In 2013, he went on a mission trip to Peru and helped provide eye care for over 1,200 people. Dr. Furman specializes in primary eye care, contact lenses, and managing ocular disease.

He and his wife, Megan, moved to Florida in 2015 and moved to St. Petersburg in 2016. There is never a dull moment in their lives thanks to their six year old Labrador Retriever, Charley. Adam enjoys traveling, golfing, playing ice hockey, and cheering on the Bucs.

Dr. Joel Marantz

Dr. Joel Marantz was born in New York City in 1944. He moved to Florida with his family and graduated from Dixie Hollins High School in 1961. He completed his Doctor of Optometry degree at Massachusetts College of Optometry (since renamed New England College of Optometry) in 1966. He practiced optometry with Dr. Phillip Benjamin until his retirement in 1982 when Dr. Marantz took over the practice.  In 2012 Dr. Marantz brought on Dr. Camargo to mentor and slowly make the transition of his practice to her.  In December of 2014, Dr Marantz and his wife Anne, made the decision to sell the practice to Dr. Camargo and her husband Jeremy.  Currently, Dr. Marantz is enjoying retired life by spending time with his wife, step-son and daughter-in law, grandson, friends and an adorable dog named Tag.  Dr. Marantz also always finds time to reach out to Dr. Camargo to check in how things are going and is none the less a huge support of the new SPECS team.  Dr Marantz was a member of The American Optometric Association for over forty years.  He served as President of the Pinellas County Optometric Association from 1972 to 1974.  He was always a strong advocate of the local optometrist and always urged all optometrist to participate in the meetings.  He received recognition from many groups such as United Fund of St Petersburg, Florida Senators Proclamation Award in 2000 and 2001 and in 1979 he was recognized by the United Way of Pinellas County.  These are just a few accolades Dr Marantz has achieved.  However, if you ask him he would probably tell you his biggest achievement was the personal relationships he developed with his patients over the years.

Jeremy Camargo

Keeping the tradition alive Dr. Camargo’s husband Jeremy is on board to run our day to day operations along with our laboratory. Jeremy graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 2012 with his bachelors in Social Sciences during which time he maintained a job working in a optical laboratory.  Since taking over the practice he has brought in state of the art lab equipment to fabricate most prescriptions on site. He has over 9 years of lab and optical experience and with our optician the two of them have over 35 years experience. They will not only find the best looking and best fitting frame; they will also make sure your lens selection is spot on!  Jeremy enjoys playing tennis and golf, watching his two favorite college football teams, the University of Michigan and the University of Florida and most importantly spending time with family and friends.
